Before the movie Elf came along Christmas Vacation was everyone’s favorite Christmas comedy. The 1989 John Hughes smash hit starring Chevy Chase made millions in the theaters and continues to pull in millions more though DVDs, downloads and cable re-runs.

But mystery reigns over this classic Christmas comedy. For example, the cast never rehearsed. Yes, they had a script but it seems Chevy Chase just kind of winged it. That’s likely why the look on Cousin Eddie’s face is perpetually priceless.
